Learning to fly, Again.

The idea of drones is nothing new. In place of the remote-controlled, tiny toy helicopter that you recharged every 10 mins through a USB port, you can now fly drones that are 5 feet wide, up to 45 mins, with auto maneuvering capabilities while taking 4K, 360 degrees footage along the way. Or, it can fly you. Ehang 184 has graced the list of top 10 CES tech on every single tech pub out there. This personal drone, emphasis on personal, can carry one person up to 260 pounds for 10 miles or 23 mins. With eight propellers and four arms, it can go up to 11,000 feet at 62 mph top speed. All the while you have utterly minimal controls. In fact, the only real action you can do is to push a button to take off, pause flight (I'm curious as to what happens when you do), and land.

This “out-of-control” idea makes a lot of people anxious, skeptical, even scared. While all of those questions that spawned out are valid and need to be solved, I think we need to embrace this bold move with confidence and courage. We accept self-driving cars, why not self-driving drones? (And frankly, the idea of auto-pilot drones seems much cooler.) We owe it to our pioneers, the Earhart and the Wright in us, to learn to fly again.
